Try these simple 5 steps

Black screen, no power or it won't turn on?
If the screen is black you may have an issue between the computer and the source of power. If there are no lights on the computer, make sure that you firmly pushed the power button. You can also check that your surge protector is not the culprit by plugging in directly to the outlet. Another thing to do is check for a problem with the outlet it's self. Try a Fresh Reboot
If you have maxed out the memory on your computer, it can start to act a bit wily. Believe it or not, 99 times out of 100 a fresh reboot will clear up problems that develop "all of a sudden". Before you delve deeper, try restarting the machine and see if that resolves the problem.

 Retrace Your Steps
If you have recently added any software or hardware to your computer, no matter how small this could be the cause of your problem. Try mentally retracing your steps to determine if you need to uninstall a program or disconnect new equipment.

Problems and errors in the Windows registry are often responsible for software and operating system related problems.  Run Your Virus Scanner In Safe Mode
Viruses are an unfortunate reality and are a common offender when it comes to computer problems. If all else fails, reboot your computer in safe mode by restarting and tapping the F8 key on your keyboard as the computer reboots. You should get an option to start in "safe mode". Select this and wait for the system to load. Next, run your virus scanner software. If viruses are found, they can be cleaned by your software.
