Introduction

The way to make folder private in windows XP is easy and there is one more methods to create Private Folder.  Private Folder means that only  current user or user whom they have can access. This is the way to keep data and folder secure. If you create a Private Folder  and then subfolder  it will automatically be private.

The method to create private folder is as given below.

1.     1.  First open My Computer and then double-click the drive where you want to create your private folders. For example open D drive and create a folder as MY PROJECT.

2.      2.  If the contents of the drives are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive.

3.    3.   Right-click on MY PROJECT folder.

4.     4.   Then click Properties.

5.     5.   And Select Sharing and Security tab, and then select  Sharing tab and  check the there on Local Sharing and Security check the box on “Make this Folder Private” .

6.      6.  After performing the above click on Apply and then OK.

Note: You cannot make your folders private if your drive is not formatted as NTFS. And if you make folder private then you cannot share private folder. When you make a folder private, then you can’t share the folder and subfolders till you disable this private folder option.

Note: This option is only available for folders included in the user profile. Folders in the user profile include My Documents and its subfolders, Desktop, Start Menu, Cookies, and Favorites. If you do not make these folders private, they are available to everyone who uses your computer.

Win XP Won't Completely Shutdown

If there is shutdown problem with your computer  then you can perform the following steps....

• Go to Control Panel, then double on o Power Options to open Power Management.
• After that Click on Advance Power Management (APM) Tab, then check the "Enable Advanced Power Management support"  option. Click OK to proceed for further.
• Then after that try to Shut down your PC. 

Now, it should successfully Shut Down the computer. Try the Best.

Power Off at Shutdown
If you want your computer's power to turn off when you shut it down, so you won't have to manually push the power button?Follow the given instruction to perform the Power Off At Shutdown...

   1. Click on  START, then click the RUN and type there regedit and then click OK to open the registry edittor.
   2. Navigate to the following Registry key: HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop
   4. Find the PowerOffActive entry in the right pane of the Registry Editor and double click on that to open.
   5. In the Edit String dialog box, replace the 0 in the Value data text box with a 1, then click OK.
   6. Finally Restart the computer.

Creating a short curt Shutdown and Restart icon on the desktop

There is a program or feature in Windows XP called SHUTDOWN.EXE which allows you to easily create icons to shutdown or restart your computer. 
To create a shutdown shortcut on the desktop: 

1. Right click on an open area of the desktop 
2. Select New / Shortcut 
3. Enter in "shutdown -s -t 00" - (no quotes)
4. Press the Next button 
5. For the name, enter in anything you like. I just use shutdown. Click the Finish button. 
6. For a reboot, enter "shutdown -r -t 00" 

 

Microsoft Product Activation Wizard

Follow these steps to start the wizard given below if the MS product Activation fails to activate.

A. Windows Vista

1. Click Start

2. And then Right-click on My Computer, or you can also click My Computer icon on the Desktop
3. Select Properties.

B. Windows XP

1. Click on Start Menu
2. And then click on  All Programs.

6. Click  on the Program_Name Options. (For example, click Word Options or Excel Options.) to activate.
7. After selecting product then click on the Resources.
8. On the Activate Microsoft Office line, click Activate to start the process of activation.

D. Microsoft Office 2003 or earlier versions of Microsoft Office programs

1. Click Start --All Programs -- Microsoft Office -- Select any Office program for example, Word, Excel etc to activate.
2. As soon as the Office program starts, the Office Activation Wizard will be displayed.

Before You Deploy Windows Vista SP2

Complete the following steps before you deploy Windows Vista SP2:

• Obtain the Installation files.
• Perform pre-deployment tasks.
• Review changes to Windows Vista SP2 functionality.

 

Obtaining the installation files

Obtain the Windows Vista SP2 files by using one of the following methods:

• Windows Update . It contains Vista SP2,  it  will be installed automatically on computers that are set to receive automatic updates.  But during installation of Vista SP 2 the user must accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
• Stand-alone package . You can download Windows Vista SP2 from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=107075.
• Integrated installation. Windows Vista SP 2 is integrated with Windows Vista SP2 installation DVD disk. You can also make your own integrated installation images by installing Service Pack 2 on a Windows Vista computer and then after capturing the image.

Perform pre-deployment tasks

First of all make sure that if you are installing Windows Vista SP2 by using Windows Update, be sure to perform these tasks before you accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.

• Always try to check or make sure that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been installed on your computer or not. There should be Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed on your computer before you install Service Pack 2.
• Back up important data. Always backup your data before performing Windows Update and stand-alone installations, since Windows update Setup automatically creates a system restore point before the installation of Windows Vista SP2 begins; where this restore point backs up system files only.
• Ensure that drivers are up to date. Always try to perform Window Updates and also check for your system and system drivers that are installed are updated or not. Always keep your system and driver up to date.
• Disconnect any serial cables connected to UPS devices. Make sure that you have UPS installed on your computer  via Serial Cable then remove before performing installation or starting installation. Since because setup always detects Serial ports during installation.
• Check System for file corruption. You can use this command Check Disk (Chkdsk.exe), System File Checker (SFC.exe) and System Update Readiness tool (CheckSUR.exe) to check system file for error  by using the following procedure.
  
  To check and fix file corruption

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window by clicking the Start button, typing command in the Start Search box, right-clicking Command Prompt, and then clicking Run as administrator.
2. Run the following command (assuming that C is the system drive): chkdsk c: /F
3. After the command in step 2 completes, type the following at the command line: SFC /Scannow

Installation options

There are some different ways that you can deploy Windows Vista SP2, as explained in the following table.

To install the service pack by using Windows Update

1. Before updating make sure that  you are connected to the Internet.
2. Do any one of the following:--
• If your computer is set to install updates automatically, when prompted, follow the instructions to install Windows Vista SP2.
• To initiate the installation manually, perform steps 3 through 7.
3. Click on Start, select Settings and then click on Control Panel,  and then double-click on Windows Update  option there, and then click Check for Updates.
4. Select the Service Pack 2 update (KB948465). and then click on  Install to start installation.
5. After Setup downloads the update, accept the Microsoft Software License Terms and then click Install.
6. Setup will begin the installation. During Setup you will be prompted to restart system then click Restart now to restart system.
7. After completing setup Windows logon appears. Now this time, you can log on to the computer.
8. To confirm that Windows Vista SP2 is installed, make sure and right-click on My Computer and then select Properties. After selecting Properties a window open where you can see the service pack in the Windows Edition section and system details.

Kaspersky Detects Deeply Penetrating Computer Virus Sinowal

According to security company Kaspersky, and iit survey on internets security and system security that kesparsky research lab already been spotted a fresh and dangerous type of virus called Sinowal (Sinwal is a vicious code that keeps itself hidden on an infected system by contaminating its MBR (Master Boot Record) that is part of a system's hard-drive) at the end of March 2009.

Sinwa Botnet is also called Torpig which represents a sophisticated method that  which is used first time by the team of cyber criminals.

The process of Sinowal is that it simply plants itself on the MBR  the first layer of computer's hard disk drive which helps to boot the systen, and then it (sinwal) effectively bypasses antivirus software.
Make sure that if MBR found infected then try to reboot system and then it will automatically scan during start up.

Install Windows 7 From an External Hard Drive

This is a good news,  for all Netbook and laptop users: Since Microsoft has completely remove the previous headach of Booting or installing system from CD or DVD,  it makes the laptop and notebook users easy  to install Windows 7 RC1, even if you don't have an internal,or external Optical or CD ROM Drive or DVD drive etc.
Since Windows 7 comes in ISO form and is of 2.3 GB, after downloading ISO try to extract in your USB Flash drive or Pen drive for complete Installation.
My best method is installing Microsoft Windows 7 RC 1 from an external hard disk drive. You need one with about 5GB of free space. The process, which takes a little less than an hour, goes like this as given below...

1. First try to download the MS Windows 7 RC or RC 1 (32-bit) from www.microsoft.com.

2. After downloading connect your external hard drive to your PC wher you have downloaded Windows 7 ISO image. make sure the hard Disk you have inserted or attached with PC must be empty or  5 GB of  Space, as it's going to get littered with Windows 7 installer files.

3. if you are using Vista: then click on Start, and choose RUN and then type computer management, then press Enter to proceed. Where if you are using Windows XP:  Click on Start --- Settings ---- and then click on Control Panel, and open Administrative Tools, and then open Computer Management.

4. Click on Disk Management, then find your external hard drive in the list on the right (in the upper pane). Right-click the drive and choose Mark Partition as Active partition or Active Drive.

5. After performing all the above step try to extract Windows 7 ISO file to your external disk drive or USB Flash or pen drive etc. For this you can use trial also is ISO Image reader  or you can download this software from this link...http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/iso/reader. If you go with Undisker, click File, Open, navigate to the folder containing your ISO, then open it. Click Image, Extract To, then
navigate to the root folder of your external hard drive. Click Extract and wait a few minutes for the process to finish.

6. After performing the above steps Safely remove your external hard drive, and then plug it into your Netbook or Laptop or also you can usde in Desktop and then power on or switch on to boot the system. During this POST enter into the BIOS to change the boot order so that USB drives are select as first boot device, but many notebooks let you bring up a boot menu by hitting a function key.

On  Acer Aspire One, for instance, press F12 during the POST screen lets me choose my desired boot drive.

7. Select the First Boot drive as USB drive  that boots correctly, the Windows 7 installer should start right up now. Follow all the instructiona and you're on your way to install Windows 7 operating system.

The process of Installation is same on Desktop, PC, laptop and Notebook. But the main difference is System hardware compatibility. As earlier version of Windows Operating System Vista was not much more compatible with all notebook and laptop, so it is sad.
But recently Microsoft has released new OS which is pretty good and fast in comparison to  windows Vista operating system and its hardware compatibility.

Windows 7 is faster than Windows Vista on low-spec machines, and Windows 7 is also properly optimized for Netbook Hardware, and, most importantly, free for 13 months.
But the installation is not quite as an easy step as it is on a regular PC, since if there is no DVD drive installed on your notebook, or may be ther Cd rom installed  on notbook but windows 7 is ib DVD then some problem, at this situation you can try  an external drive or also you can boot from a USB stick for a clean install. Luckily, there are simple methods to deal with both of these problems. Let's get started here as...

What You'll Need to install Windows 7 on Notebook...

Downloading Windows 7 ISO Image

Before downloading windows 7 images, always remember that your Notebook supports 32/64 Bit. If 32 Bit hardware then choose there 32 bit and then click to start download. You'll need to get a free Windows Live ID if you don't already have one, but this takes about two minutes. This is only for that, Microsoft  give you your very own Windows 7 License key, and this license is  valid until June 1st of 2009. but remember this that from next year or in 2009 windows will prompt your and will automatically shutdown every after two hours. before Downloading make sure that ther high bandwidth of internet or you have broadband connection since the size Windows 7 is 2.36GB.

Preparing Your Flash Drive

1. Open a Terminal (under Utilities)

2. Run diskutil list and determine the device node assigned to your flash media (e.g. /dev/disk2)

3. Run diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN (replace N with the disk number from the last command; in the previous example, N would be 2)

4. Execute sudo dd if=/path/to/downloaded.iso of=/dev/diskN bs=1m (replace /path/to/downloaded.iso with the path where the image file is located; for example, ./windows7.iso)

5. Run diskutil eject /dev/diskN and remove your flash media when the command completes (this can take a few hours on slower drives)

After performing above insert your USB drive in USB port of your Notebook and then start your Notebook and set as First Boot Device as USB or it may depends on BIOS version so you can set as boot with USB or whatever.....it depends on the BIOS....

Windows 7 is initially a code name with the release of Beta and RC1 where Microsoft and its team has decided to retain then of this  Newly released Windows with lots of features and will be named for final in the last quarter of the 2009 or may be the first  quarter of the 2010. Microsoft publicly launched a preview version of its next Windows operating system this week that includes an XP mode to entice business users who didn't make the switch to its current Vista operating system.

The release candidate of Windows 7 was officially made available for public download on the Microsoft website on May 5, five days after it was released to subscribers of certain Microsoft networks. Windows has still not said when it will officially launch the final commercial version of the operating system, although technology websites have suggested it could be by January 2010 or sooner.

The previous version of the operating system, Windows Vista, was released in January 2007, after numerous delays.

Users complained Vista was slow, was sometimes incompatible with devices such as printers, and had security features that led to frequent, annoying pop-up alerts. In addition, many computers that had been marketed as "Vista capable" even could not run the full version of the operating system.

Some computer vendors, such as Dell, began giving users the option of choosing Windows XP instead of Vista after an outcry from their customers. Microsoft slashed the price of the boxed version of Vista in 2008 in an effort to boost sales.

ActiveX control is  mainly used by websites where a web designer wants the possibility  with plain HTML, XHTML and XML, since because he needs to use a programmable extension, or plug-in.To start with ActiveX, there is the problem with security system on the computer and with Operating System, since ActiveX control is are developed by any third parties (not by Microsoft), so they are a security risk.

ActiveX errors could be due to bad programming, incompatible operating environment or conflicts between the other installed software on the current machine or operating system. Since because ActiveX controls are programmable components, where different versions of an ActiveX control can have different interfaces. A) Double click on the VirtualWindowsXP.msi installation file.

B) Click on the Next button.

D) If prompted by UAC, click on Yes.

E) Check the Launch Virtual Windows XP box, then click on the Next button.

3. Check the box I Accept , and then click on the Next button.

4. A new Window opens and Prompt you the Enter the Password and type it in again to confirm it, and then click on the Next button.
NOTE: If you would like to be logged on automatically whenever you open Virtual Windows XP do the step 10, then check the Remember credentials box.

5. After Performing Step no. 4, select the Radio Button or the check box to the Help Protect My Computer by turning on Automatic Updates now, and then click on the Next button to proceed.

6. Whenever you select or click on check box in step 5 then after that you will see this for a few moments.

7. If you do not check the Remember credentials box in step 4, then you will need to enter your password which you have entered in step 4 and then click on OK to proceed. If you have don, then at that situation skip this and continue on to step 8.

8. After performing all of the above steps carefully and succeessfully,  then the Virtual Windows XP will now open. After Successfull open y ou are now in Windows XP Mode.

9. If you want to close Windows Virtual Windows XP then click on the X button in the upper right corner of the window  or you can close this windows by selecting menu bar and click on Close to close the Window.

10. If you want to Open Virtual Windows XP - !!  Click on START Menu  then click on All Programs, and then select or expand Windows Virtual PC folder, and then thereafter double click on the Virtual Windows XP shortcut.

11. Installing a Program in Virtual Windows XP -

Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) protects the local network against unauthorized and unknown incoming traffic from the Internet where Internet Connection Firewall always creates a protective barrier between the network and the Internet.

This feature works with individual tabs in Internet Explorer 8, though unfortunately not Firefox.

Right clicking gives a ‘Jump menu ‘, giving you speedily access to recent documents and you can pin apps of your choice directly to the taskbar.

In the Start menu, a small arrow to the right of applications such as Word now expands to give a list of recent documents and any can be pinned so you can keep one permanently on the list.

6. Aero-shake

Our favourite new visual feature is called ‘Aero Shake’. If you have a multitude of Windows open but want to focus on just the one you can all you have to do is grab it by the title bar (at the top) and shake with the mouse. This minimizes all the other Windows leaving just the one you’ve grabbed on the desktop.

Another great touch is Stacking. You simply drag a Window to the sides of your screen and it will stick automatically to the side filling half the screen, making it quick and easy to view documents side by side. Move to the top and it will maximize to the whole screen.
